Agent authorisation (64-8)

Get authorised to act for a new client - request it and complete it with the client’s code - without leaving the tool.

  1. 1

    When you need this

Before you can pull a client’s tax data, HMRC needs a record that you act for them. This covers requesting that authorisation and completing it once the client receives their code. Existing, already-authorised clients do not need any of this.

  2. 2

    Request authorisation

Enter the client’s details and start the request. This is the only part of the product that submits something to HMRC rather than just reading - and it only runs when you explicitly start it. Nothing is ever sent on your behalf in the background.

  3. 3

    Enter the authorisation code

HMRC posts an authorisation code to the client by letter, which typically takes about a week to arrive. When the client passes you the code, enter it here to finalise the link.

  4. 4

    Check the status

The request status updates once HMRC processes it. From then on the client behaves like any other - you can run tax tasks, bulk reports and workflows for them.

The Free plan includes 10 tasks a month and takes about a minute to set up - no card required.
